A short "Slash" Rant
by Franzi, October 28th, 2001
I don't get it. Really. It's one thing to say: "I don't like to read slash, I just don't see it" or "I don't want to read about any m/m relationship". I can live with that. No one should read something he/she doesn't want to. But what can really make me angry are people (and yeah, I've met one of those on the net) who say something like: "Slash and same-sex relationships (even in Real Life) are immoral." (and you "%&!%"$! have the right to define what's moral/immoral, huh?). I know some lesbians and gay guys. And they sure as hell aren't more or less immoral than heterosexual people, for god's sake! Or "Slash-writers/readers are sick people" (why, thank you!) Yeah, right.
All the people out there who - for what reason ever - like to insult "us": Tell ya what, mind your own business, okay? If you don't like slash, don't read it. Your choice. But stop flaming all the great writers out there, just because they happen to like writing about two guys in a sexual relationship! And another thing: So far, I haven't met anyone in the slash fandom who says that we should stop writing gen, that we all are dumb *not* seeing the sexual relationship between the two guys.
Can't we all live in peace? I'm active in both - the slash and the gen fandom and met great people in both fandoms. I think especially in these times we should learn to be more tolerant.
